BP Girls Earn No. 2 Seed; Blossom Boys to Hit the Road
After a standout regular season, the Blooming Prairie girls basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in Section 1A and will open the post season at home Thursday, March 18 against Spring Grove at 7 pm. Radio coverage will be heard on Kat Kountry 105 FM and on the free app. BP was the section runner-up in 2020.
The BP boys are the defending section champ and will hit the road as the 11th seed for the playoffs. They will play at Grand Meadow Tuesday, March 16 at 7 pm with planned coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM as well.
On the girls side, coach John Bruns commented about the strength of the section on Saturday's AM 1390 KRFO High School Coaches Show, "It's going to be a very solid bracket...looking at the top five teams...Houston is undefeated right now...Kingsland is 14-2. So they're a solid team. They just lost to Houston by two...Hayfield, a team we are very familiar with...They're definitely a solid team, a well-coached team. And they've gotten some big wins in the section this year. And then Randolph (13-1)."
Top seeds for Section 1A are Houston, Blooming Prairie, Kingsland, Hayfield, and Randolph just as Bruns spoke about. See the full bracket by clicking below.
The Blooming Prairie girls have had a memorable season for many reasons, including a runner-up finish in the Gopher Conference, multiple career school records broken by Megan Oswald (rebounds and steals) and Bobbie Bruns (assists) and All-State honors for those two. Oswald was named All-State by the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association. Bruns earned honorable mention honors.
The top seeds for the boys 1A tournament are Southland, Lyle/Pacelli, Hayfield, and Rushford-Peterson.
BP boys coach Nate Piller says finding secondary ways to score has been a recent priority, "Teams have been focused in on players who have been leading us in scoring, really forcing us to find other avenues to score." Blooming Prairie closed on a challenging stretch with back-to-back games with Lyle/Pacelli Thursday and Gopher Conference champ Maple River Friday.
