Owatonna eighth-grade Kendra Bogen had just hit her first varsity home run a few minutes earlier, yet the Huskies' softball team found themselves down 2-1 after the first inning to Rochester John Marshall. Coach Jeremy Moran said the team handled it well and rallied for an 18-2, five-inning victory.

"It was good to see that we didn't panic being down after the first inning.  We stayed relaxed and got the runs back by just stringing base hits together.  We kept the ball in play only striking out twice as a team and had 13 total hits.  We did a good job keeping pressure on JM's defense all night."

Bogen connected in the top of the first for an opposite-field homer. She ended the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Danika Ringhofer also had a historic day, going 2-for-4 for her first multi-hit varsity game. She drove in three runs and scored twice.

Parris Hovden drove in three runs. Samantha Bogen, Zoie Roush, and Paiton Glynn each had two hits. Kennedy Hodgman tossed the complete game, giving up seven hits while striking out two. OHS did not commit an error.

After the Rockets grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first, Owatonna came back with seven runs in the second inning. The Huskies added an eight-run fourth and scored two more for good measure in the fifth.

The Huskies host Northfield Thursday, May 12 at 4 pm at Morehouse for Senior Night. Hovden is the Huskies' only senior.
