The Minnesota Historical Society has announced its latest round of Minnesota Historical and Cultural heritage Small Grants. The small grants are awarded quarterly to help nonprofit and educational organizations, government units and tribal organizations preserve and share Minnesota history.

Among those receiving grants in our area is the City of Blooming Prairie a grant of $6,763 to hire qualified consultants to evaluate the Blooming Prairie water tower for possible inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The image of the tower shown is part of a quilt that will be auctioned off March 24 during the Blooming Prairie Education Foundation auction.

The Rice County Historical Society received a grant of around $7,000 for the cataloguing of its hat and shoe collection.

The West Concord Historical Society will receive a grant of around $7,000 to hire a historian to complete an evaluation to determine eligibility for listing in the National Register for Historic Places for West Concord.

This cycle of awards was approved by the Minnesota Historicall Society Executive Council on February 20.
