The season of construction continues throughout the state of Minnesota. If your commute takes you into Minneapolis you'll know that a good portion of I-35W has reduced lanes and closed exit and entrance ramps. Just this past weekend I-35W was closed between I-94 to the North to the crosstown, Highway 62, which was a pain for anyone trying to get around this weekend or come back from the cabin. Just a heads up there will be more of these closures as we head into the Fourth of July week, starting tonight.

According to MnDOT and KSTP-TV motorists who are heading Minneapolis overnight tonight or Tuesday night can expect a detour as I-35W between 94 and the Crosstown will be closed again. And to make your holiday plans a little more tricky, prepare for the same stretch of road to be closed again this weekend Friday night through Monday morning.

The overnight closures for tonight and Tuesday night will start at 10 PM and will wrap up by 5 AM the following morning. If you are going to stick to taking I-35W, the detour you'll be driving is a combination of I-94, to I-394, to Highway 100, and then Highway 62 before jumping back on the Interstate.

As a person who took I-35 this weekend to get to the North Metro, I bypassed the Interstate entirely and just took Highway 169 and some County Roads to get us to our destination. It took a little longer, but I didn't have to deal with as much traffic as I'm sure the official detour route did.
