Austin is 3A Baseball Third Place, New Prague Advances to 4A Semis
The Big Nine Conference Austin Packers lost to the St. Thomas Academy Cadets 9-5 in the semifinals of the MSHSL Class 3A State Baseball Tournament at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota Campus in Minneapolis today. The Packers scored a 3-1 win over #2 seed Hill-Murray in their opening game Thursday. On the other side of the bracket #5 seed Benilde-St. Margaret's edged top seed Monticello 2-1 to advance to the title game next Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Target Field.
Austin earned individual medals and the third place trophy by defeating Monticello 5-1 in the Third Place game. Hill-Murray is the Consolation Champion in Class 3A thanks to a 10-2 win over Marshall. The Tigers of Marshall downed Duluth Denfeld 10-6 and the Pioneers of Hill-Murray got by Little Falls 6-5 to advance to the Consolation title game played on the University of Northwestern campus in Roseville.
In Class 2A at St. Cloud, Marshall School of Duluth and Minnehaha Academy will play for the crown. The Redhawks are hoping to capture their third title in the past four years. The Hilltoppers of Marshall School, Duluth edged Glencoe-Silver Lake in their opener Thursday 4-3 before winning a nail biter in the semis 3-2 over Paynesville Area. Minnehaha has scored 21 runs in their two games while allowing 6.
The Redhawks rolled by LaCrescent-Hokah in their opener 12-5. Downed St. Peter 9-1 in the semifinals. Minnehaha Academy was the Consolation Champions last year.
Paynesville Area won the Third Place game 6-0 over St. Peter.
The Foley Falcons beat LaCrescent 11-5. Perham edged Glencoe-Silver Lake 10-9 setting up the Consolation Championship game at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. Foley won 6-3.
In the Class 4A Tournament at CHS Field in St. Paul the Stillwater Ponies galloped to a 11-0 win over Eden Prairie. The #5 seed Raptors of East Ridge got by #4 seed Mounds View 9-5 setting up a semifinal at Noon Saturday between East Ridge and Stillwater.
On the other side of the bracket New Prague in their first state baseball tournament since 1980 upset #2 seed Blaine 7-6. The Rogers Royals upended the #2 seed Hopkins Royals 4-2. The Trojans and Royals play 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the other semifinal at CHS Field.
Consolation games at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on the University of Northwestern of Roseville campus include Eden Prairie and Mounds View in the early game and Blaine and Hopkins the later contest.
The Consolation title game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at University of Northwestern.
