Arrests Reported In Connection With Austin Man’s Death
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Austin Police Department today reported the arrests of an adult and two juveniles on charges associated with the recent death of a 75-year-old man.
A news release issued by Austin Police Chief David McKichan says William Hall was found deceased in his home in the 800 block of 12th Avenue Southeast on October 13th by individuals who deliver meals. A neighbor told the investigating officers that his security cameras had captured video of several young males in the vicinity of the home the previous day and the recordings included audio suggesting that had been an encounter between the victim and the young males.
Police reported they also found a brandy bottle and a holster for a gun on the property. The news release says the bottle was from a brand that the victim had in his residence, and his family reported some of his property was missing, including a firearm.
Investigators used the security camera videos to identify suspects and, based on interviews, they believe Hall was surprised by the young men when they came to his home with the intent to steal his property. At some point, Hall was pushed down and was struck in his face when he attempted to get up. Chief McKichan says investigators believe that left him seriously injured and lying in the location where he was later found deceased.
The adult in custody was identified as 18-year-old Francisco Silva of Austin. The juveniles arrested as suspects in the case have not been identified. The news release says the list of possible charges includes second-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and first-degree assault.
