I love the great outdoors, and hitting up a Minnesota beach is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. However, I'm not the biggest fan of lake water (yes, unpopular opinion). There's just something about the weeds, dead fish floating about, and the thought of all of the...well, poop and pee that's a total joy killer for me.

You can about imagine my joy to find out there's a Minnesota beach that actually has a chlorinated swimming pool with a sandy bottom...so, it looks and feels exactly like you're swimming in a lake--without all of the other stuff.

Flandrau State Park is located in New Ulm, Minnesota. It's a pool you have to see to believe.

It's located at 1300 Summit Avenue and there's a lot more to do than just swim. They've got campsites, hiking trails, volleyball courts, a playground and more. It's the perfect summer getaway.

It costs $35 to get a year long parking pass, or $7 for  single day vehicle pass.

Sadly, the pool will not be open this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minnesota DNR announced it'll be closed through the 2021 season. According to the DNR's website, the pond is typically open the Friday after Memorial Day through mid August.

We'll have to wait a whole year before it opens up again, but hey, now at least you know it exists. So, add it to your summer bucket list for 2022. What a great option for those of us who love lakes without all of the 'stuff' that comes with it.
