Owatonna Champ Earns Spot on Team USA
Owatonna High School graduate Peyton Robb, a three-time state wrestling champion for the Huskies and current Husker for the University of Nebraska, has earned a spot on Team USA for the U23 Freestyle World Championships in November in Serbia. Robb qualified at the national championships run by USA Wrestling in Lincoln, NE according to a report on the Huskers website. A field of 600 wrestlers were vying for a spot on Team USA.
Robb has competed internationally before, winning both the freestyle and Greco-Roman brackets at the 2017 Pan-American Championships. He finished third at the Greco-Roman Nationals that same year. See Robb's bio from huskers.com.
Robb was one of two Huskers to qualify. Coach Mark Manning said, "They each won against an elite group of wrestlers, and we are excited for these guys to compete internationally."
While wrestling for the Huskies, Robb compiled a 155-6 overall record, winning state titles as a freshman, sophomore and senior. He capped his senior season with a 48-0 record. He was a four-time state finalist.
As a sophomore for Nebraska in 2020-21 Robb won a pair of matches at the NCAA tournament. He had qualified for nationals at US Bank Stadium in 2020 as well, but that event was canceled due to the pandemic.
Robb is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten, honorable mention All-America (2020) and multi-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete. He was also the Huskers Outstanding Male Newcomer (2020).
