After Farmington’s Only Grocery Store Closes, Volunteer Organization Steps In
Farmington's only grocery store, Family Fresh, closed in December. Now, the closest grocery store is in Lakeville, 6 miles away. While that's not too bad of a trip for some, this is an issue for others who have mobility problems or don't have access to a vehicle.
That's where Loaves & Fishes comes in. They're a volunteer-run organization who, according to Bring Me the News, "brings warm meals to in-need communities." Their location is Farmington is their 33rd. They opened this location in Farmington's Faith Church.
Right now, Loaves and Fishes only has enough volunteers to host one free community meal a week, but that's still better than nothing! They're "hoping to get enough volunteers that it will be able to offer more days in the future."
Their first free community meal was hosted on New Year's Day 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM.
