7 Games to Follow as Minnesota Football Playoffs Begin
The Minnesota prep football playoffs begin Tuesday, October 26 for most teams. Unlike the pouring rain many teams endured in week eight last Wednesday, great fall weather should greet fans. And unlike the abrupt end of the section playoffs one year ago after one game, a full slate of playoff brackets followed by a full state tournament ending with the Prep Bowl at US Bank Stadium await.
On the radio Tuesday, catch reigning state champ from 2019 Blooming Prairie host Medford on Kat Kountry 105 FM. Faribault entertains Marshall in a Power 96 broadcast. Kenyon-Wanamingo travels to Randolph on The Might 920 KDHL. Each game kicks off at 7 pm and is available on each station's free app.
MEDFORD (No. 8 seed, 0-8) at BLOOMING PRAIRIE (No. 1, 8-0) [SECTION 2AA]
The Awesome Blossoms won their 26th consecutive game last Wednesday when they won at the Tigers 48-7. This is BP's first year back in Class AA.
NRHEG (No. 5, 4-4) at ST. CLAIR/MANKATO LOYOLA (No. 4, 6-2) [SECTION 2AA]
The Panthers dropped a 14-13 decision to the Crusaders earlier this season in a game where NRHEG turned the ball over about seven times. The Panthers also have a one-point loss to GFW.
The other first round games in 2AA are WEM at Blue Earth Area and LeSueur-Henderson at Maple River.
ST. CHARLES (No. 5, 4-4) at TRITON (No. 4, 5-3) [SECTION 1AA]
Triton could be dubbed the 'Cardiac Cobras' this season with four games decided by less than three points. They have won three of those, including a 22-20 come-from-behind victory over the Saints for Triton's homecoming.
The other quarterfinals feature Cotter at top-seed Chatfield, Dover-Eyota at Goodhue and Lewiston-Altura at Caledonia.
AUSTIN (No. 6, 1-7) at NORTHFIELD (No. 3, 3-5) [SECTION 1-5A]
The Raiders edged the Packers 21-20 in week one of the season. The winner comes to five-time defending section champ Owatonna (5-3) on Saturday, October 30.
ROCHESTER JM (No. 5, 1-7) at CENTURY (No. 4, 3-5) [SECTION 1-5A]
The Panthers whipped the Rockets 37-8 in week seven. The winner plays at top seed Rochester Mayo (7-1) on Saturday.
MARSHALL (No. 5) at FARIBAULT (No. 4) [SECTION 2-4A]
The Falcons are an interloper in this section, having not played any team.
St. Peter is at Jordan Tuesday in the other first round game. Top-seed Hutchinson and second-seed Willmar have first-round byes.
KENYON-WANAMINGO (No. 5) at RANDOLPH (No. 4) [SECTION 1A]
