The Steele County Blades junior hockey team traveled to Ironwood, Michigan to open their season this weekend. Their first home game is Sunday September 28.

The Blades squared off with the expansion Fighting Yoopers .

The Steele County Blades are beginning their third year in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League.

First year head coach Nick Adamek spoke with KRFO's Roy Koenig:

The Blades play their first game at the Four Seasons Centre on Sunday September 28 vs Hudson in the small rink. The official 'home opener' will be Friday October 17 vs Maple Grove.

Their roster has a couple of Owatonna players: Erik Colstrup and Justin Stein.

The Blades are looking for volunteer help on game nights. Jobs consist of ticket takers, merchandise and chuck-a-puck, ushers and camera operator. If you are interested in joining the team of volunteers, please contact Josh Kiel at jkiel@q.com or call 507-390-4569.
