The high school hockey season arrives in Owatonna Tuesday as the Owatonna girls open their home schedule at 7PM with coverage on KRFO AM1390. OHS (1-0) hosts Rochester Century (0-1) at the Four Seasons Centre.

Owatonna opened their season November 10 with a 7-0 win at the St. Paul Blades. Margo Achterkirch had two goals and an assist. Sydney Hunst, Jamie Davison and Olivia Herzog each had a goal and an assist. Grace Wolfe and Maylynn Prokopec also scored. Laura Ebeling got the win in goal.

Dan Paur is the new coach, taking over for Tim Hunst who stepped down after last season to spend more time with his family. Hunst will be inducted into the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame this winter after 17 seasons as Owatonna coach and several years before that in Lakeville. Paur is also the girls lacrosse coach at OHS. Joel Tornell will continue as the assistant coach with the Huskies.

Owatonna graduated Jenna Bogen, Shannon VanReeth and Kayla Jorgenson off last season's 16-9-2 team, the Huskies ninth consecutive winning season. OHS lost to Northfield in the Section 1A semifinals. After two seasons in Class A, Owatonna is back in Class AA this winter.

Achterkirch was Owatonna's leading scorer last season and has 62 career goals and 68 assists in her four-year varsity career. Bogen was second in scoring last season for the Huskies. Ebeling was 14-8-2 in goal last season.

An intermission interview Tuesday night will feature Owatonna football defensive coordinator March Achterkirch as the Huskies prepare for Saturday's Prep Bowl appearance following their semifinal victory over Brainerd at U.S. Bank Stadium.
