Over the weekend, I saw that all of the cars on my street, on both sides, had something on their windshields. I have also been seeing on Facebook posts about the Winter Parking Ordinance in Owatonna. Now, since it is not quite November 15th, I am sure those were notices that remind people about the parking ordinances in town. We have already had a couple of inches of snow, and we know that we are going to get more because Minnesota.

There is no hard and fast rule that applies universally, or even applies in MN, so each city has their own way to handle Winter parking and snow removal routes. So, no matter which city you park in, you will want to know the rules if you park on the streets.

In Owatonna, Even/Odd parking goes into effect on November 15th and runs through March 31st. You must park on the even side of the street on even numbered days, and the odd side on odd numbered days. For a complete list of the rules click here.

In Faribault, they will declare a snow emergency and then it is not legal to park your vehicle on the streets until it has been plowed curb-to-curb. For the complete list for Faribault, click here.

In Blooming Prairie, I called City Hall to get the information, as I couldn't find it on their website. There is no parking on Main and Center Street from 2 am to 8 am, for snow emergencies. I was told that is in effect from the first snowfall to the last.

Unless you are able to park in a garage, which I am thankful for every day, or in a private parking lot or driveway, make sure you know the parking rules for Winter. The last thing you want is to get up and find out your car has been towed. That gets expensive, I know a few people who have been towed.
