Wild Make Flurry of Moves to Open Free Agency

Hockey in July. You've got to love it. The Minnesota Wild made several weekend moves in the free agency market, though none will likely attract big headlines.

On the team's website, they report the signing of former Dallas Stars' defense man Greg Pateryn, a former University of Michigan player, to a three-year deal worth $7.5 million. Former Rosemount High School and UMD Bulldog winger J.T. Brown agreed to a two-year contract. Brown won a national title while playing for Duluth.

Left wing Matt Hendricks has played nearly 600 NHL games over ten seasons with five teams. He is out of Blaine and played four seasons at St. Cloud State University. He signed a one-year package.

Center Eric Fehr has played with five teams, mostly recently appearing in ten playoff games this past season with San Jose. He agreed to a one-year deal with the Wild. Goalie Andrew Hammond could challenge for a back-up role. He started last season with Ottawa and finished with Colorado, going 1-1 in a pair of playoff games.

Additionally, the Star Tribune reports that the team re-signed defense man Nick Seeler to a three-year deal. The team also recently announced that former Bloomington Jefferson standout and Hobey Baker Award winner with UMD Tom Kurvers will join the organization as an assistant to General Manager Paul Fenton.

The preseason schedule opens September 17.
