The site for the new Owatonna High School takes on the look of an education campus more and more each day. The school is scheduled to open for students in the fall of 2023. The school district released a video update with views of the inside and outside of the building and site in southeast Owatonna.

The construction update page on the Owatonna Public School's New High School Page indicates recently completed actions include exterior storage building framing, athletic lighting for tennis courts and multi-purpose field, and baseball field drain tiling.

Upcoming steps include dugout masonry work, stadium fencing, Aglime infield for baseball, and installation of scoreboards. Inside the three-story, 317,000 square-foot facility exterior window installation and third-floor mechanical and electrical rough-ins will take place soon. See pictures.

The Owatonna School District offers free meals for all kids up to age 18  each Monday through Thursday until August 4 at three sites around town, according to the school's July e-newsletter. Breakfast is available from 8 to 8:30 am and lunch from 12:15 to 12:45 pm at McKinley School at 1050 22nd Street NE and Owatonna Middle School at 500 15th Street NE. Lunch is provided at the Owatonna Public Library from 11:30 am to 12 pm.

The newsletter announces new principals in the Owatonna district. Jamie Bates takes on that role at the Area Learning Center (ALC). She has more than 20 years of experience in the education field.

Bates says, "As a principal, it is my responsibility to make sure the needs of the students are being met. My job is to take responsibility for student learning, and build a strong relationship with our community for my campus. I have always loved working with students and it is my goal to make sure they know the importance of their education and that I do everything within my power to make it happen."

Matt Zurbriggen is the new principal at Wilson Elementary after five years as assistant principal at the middle school. He says, "My family is beyond excited for this next journey in my professional career. Over the last five years, Owatonna has quickly become home for our family of five - my wife Ashlan, Autumn (age 9), Sienna (7), and Isaiah (3). A strong and loving family is at the root of my being, and as I told the Wilson staff, I can’t wait to join the Wilson family!”
