Vera Emmily Meixner, 98, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 8, 2024 at Timberdale Trace in Owatonna.

She was born March 6, 1926 in Samsø, Denmark the daughter of Nels and Agnes (Sorensen) Liin.  At three years of age, she moved with her family to Owatonna where she grew up. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1944.  On October 21, 1946, Vera married Walter Meixner at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their family.

Vera worked at a number of places outside the home including, Hope Post Office, Uber Glove Factory, as a “hired girl” in Minneapolis, owned and operated Rolling Star Café on the corner of Cedar and Pearl in Owatonna, worked in real estate and in retirement worked at Souba Greenhouse.

She loved her cats, Thunder, Sammy and Pumpkin; traveling around the United States and a trip back to Denmark, was an avid reader, enjoyed trips to the casino, liked to bowl and rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy.

Vera was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna, the Red Hats and Tops.

She is survived by children, Danny Meixner of Owatonna, Michael (Nancy) Meixner of Farmington and John (Margie) Meixner of Owatonna; sister, Thora Staver of Owatonna; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Agnes Liin; husband, Walter Meixner; brother, Einer Liin, sister, Carrie Balzer and grandson-in-law, Rob Mandell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.  Memorials are preferred to Steele County Humane Society or donor’s choice.
