Today is Unity Day – Together Against Bullying
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and today, October 24th, is Unity Day. Unity Day was created as a way to show support for those who have been bullied, and to bring attention to this epidemic. Anything we can do to prevent bullying is all good in my book.
Recent studies show that 1 in 5 children are bullied, and that can take on many forms. With my daughter being in Middle School, the bullying actually becomes more subtle, at least in the experiences she has told me about. Girls and boys alike are guilty of bullying, as well as being victims of bullying. So, Unity Day was created as a way to bring together National Bullying Prevention Month, and bring awareness to the fact that bullying still exists.
Wear your orange gear today, proudly, to say you won't stand for bullying, and if you forgot like I did, you still have time to change into orange. Even wearing an orange accessory counts. Let's make sure that we are showing our children that bullying isn't ok and that we are aware of it every day. If you can't wear orange or have nothing in orange, make it a point to talk to those outside your social circle, especially today.
