Three Big Nine, Three Gopher Conference Boys Basketball Teams Rankede

The Minnesota Basketball News state rankings have three Big Nine Conference teams and three teams from the Gopher Conference ranked among the state's elite.  In Class 1A Waterville-Elysian-Morristown was rated #5 in the last rankings. #13 Blooming Prairie , #14 Hayfield.

The Buccaneers more than held their own against Henning in the Granite City Classic in St. Cloud late last week.  Henning edged WEM 79-73 in overtime Friday.  The Buccaneers then defeated perennial power Cass Lake-Bena 75-64.

Hayfield won their tournament with victories over Faribault Bethlehem Academy (85-56) and Wabasha-Kellogg (52-43).  The Vikings are back in action Friday when they host Section opponent Grand Meadow.

Randolph was rated #15 in Class 1A and lost both games they played against Class 2A competition in St. Charles over the holidays.  LaCrescent (81-71) and Pine Island (63-58).  Head Coach Kent Otte told us Saturday on the Randolph Coaches Show he was proud of the fact his team competed hard against the bigger schools.

In Class 3A Big Nine teams #3 Mankato East, #6 Austin are ranked.  In Class 4A Rochester Mayo was #11 just behind fellow Section opponent #10 Lakeville South.

Waseca is the top ranked team in Class 2A and has been since the start of the season.  Caledonia and Lake City are #2 and #3.  Stewartville is #15.

The top rated Class 4A team is Eden Prairie.  Six South Suburban Conference teams are in the top 18.
