Twelve area wrestling teams won their Section 1 quarterfinals to advance to Saturday's semifinals at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. Basketball and hockey scores, too.

Owatonna basketball split with Northfield on Tuesday. OHS boys hockey won its home finale. Blooming Prairie's John Rumpza surpassed 2,000 career points in a victory.

The Huskies open at home Thursday versus Mayo, then will have to battle a pair of ranked teams. NRHEG starts at home, while Blooming Prairie, Medford and Triton all open on the road.

The Huskies varsity boys hockey team capped a full day of Owatonna vs. Albert Lea at the Four Season Centre with a 2-1 overtime victory, the third straight OT contest in the series.

Owatonna High School basketball swept Faribault. The Huskies wrestlers lost to No. 2 Kasson Mantorville. NRHEG basketball boys and girls lost to WEM. Blades hockey got blanked by Rochester.

Blooming Prairie senior John Rumpza signed a national letter of intent to attend Winona State University and play football.

Owatonna High School boys basketball lost on the final play of their game at Mankato West. The girls topped the Scarlets. And Huskies girls hockey got shut out by Dodge County.
