Suspicious Device Found in Eyota
Eyota, MN (KROC AM News) – Another suspicious device scare in the Rochester area. This time in Eyota.
An Olmsted County road maintenance worker spotted the device around 10:00 AM Tuesday on Center Ave. in Eyota, north of the Highway 14 intersection. It was found on the roadway.
The worker contacted the sheriff’s office and it was decided to close a number of area streets as a precaution, in part because of a nearby natural gas line.
Capt. Scott Behrns described the device as a 20-ounce pop bottle with the word “caution explosive” written on it. Behrns says it also had a fuse. Behrns says as a precaution, the St. Paul bomb squad was contacted to remove the device. It was decided to safely destroy the device at the scene. The team took the remnants for further evidentiary testing.
The earlier device was brought to the Rochester Police Department’s North Station last Tuesday by an employee of an antiques store. It consisted of three tubes similar to dynamite sticks, a battery-powered timer and the words “Danger: High Explosive.” It was also taken away by the St Paul bomb squad, which determined it was not explosive.
News update: Bison still running loose in Rochester area.
