Suspect Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting in Chisholm
Chisholm, MN (KROC-AM News) - A team of agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was dispatched to the Iron Range today to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is reporting the deadly incident took place this morning in Chisholm while officers from multiple law enforcement agencies were searching for a "known suspect and vehicle that were wanted in connection with the recent felony-level crime in Morrison County." A statement from the Sheriff's Office indicates it was believed the suspect was in the Hibbing or Chisholm area.
The statement says a St. Louis County Deputy located the suspect's vehicle in Chisholm around 7:15 AM and officers responded to the area where the unoccupied vehicle was found. It goes on to say contact was made with the suspect and "an officer involved shooting occurred."
St. Louis County officials reported that lifesaving efforts were performed by law officers at the scene and emergency first responders, but the wounds suffered by the individual proved fatal and the person was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the law enforcement officers involved were injured.
The name of the person killed and the names of the officers involved in the incident have not been released.
