The Harvey disaster is not only affecting humans but also many animals. It stands to reason that a number of families will be separated from their pets. These animals will be taken to shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas. The plans are for the shelters to hold the animals and ultimately reunite them with their owners. However before this can be done room needs to be made in these shelters. A large number of dogs are being sent to other Humane Societies around the country. There are a number of these dogs due to arrive at the Steele County Humane Society sometime on Sunday and or Monday.

As a result the Steele County Humane Society is putting out an urgent request for foster families to take in some of these dogs. Those who can help out are asked to call the Humane Society at (507)-451-4512 between 9-1PM on Saturday to make arrangements. You will have a say on what type and or size of dog you would be willing to take into your home as part of this rescue effort to help the residents affected by Harvey.
