Spring Sports Return in Minnesota
When an umpire hollers "Play ball" this week, high school spring sports will be underway for the first time in two years after the entire season was wiped out in 2020. Owatonna baseball and softball is scheduled to start their seasons Thursday against Northfield. At this point, the bigger challenge might be the weather with the chance of significant rain Wednesday into Thursday.
The 20-game schedule for Owatonna baseball would open Thursday at 5 pm at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park against Northfield. The Huskies are scheduled to be at Rochester John Mashall (John Adams Middle School) Saturday, April 10 at 1 pm and at Century (Mayo Field) on Monday, April 12 at 5 pm.
Season highlights include a May 1 trip to St. Cloud for the Apollo Deyak Showcase. The Huskies will play Elk River and St. Cloud Apollo. OHS has a game with section foe Lakeville South scheduled for May 14 at Fuller Field. The regular season is set to wrap up May 27 with a doubleheader at Franklin Rogers Field against Mankato West. Owatonna softball is scheduled to open at Northfield Thursday, April 8 at 5 pm, then play home games against John Marshall Saturday at 1 pm and Century Monday at 5 pm. The Huskies are scheduled to play at section powerhouse Farmington on April 16 and will go to Shakopee on April 30 for their other non-conference game. See the full schedule.
