Some High School Sports Won’t Get Rescheduled
As the weather deals daily winter blasts of snow, wind and COLD, a number of high school sporting events have been postponed. With the days of the regular season winding down, several of those events won't be made up.
The Owatonna High School girls' hockey game, scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 versus Austin will not be made up. With the regular season ending this week and playoffs starting Wednesday, February 6, OHS Activities Director Marc Achterkirch said in a Tweet, "Unfortunately, the game could not be rescheduled. Final regular season game this Thursday, January 31 at Four Seasons vs Northfield!"
The Huskies beat Austin 4-2 January 3. If that game is converted to a four-point game in the Big Nine standings, OHS would slip in front of Faribault into second in the league standings. Northfield (12-0 Big Nine) has already wrapped up the conference championship. The Huskies will try to spoil their unbeaten record Thursday in a game that could be a preview of the quarterfinal round of Section 1AA.
OHS will honor seniors Maylynn Prokopec and Kiley Friedrichs on Thursday for their 7 pm game on Dudley Otto Rink. OwatonnaLive.com will provide a live stream of the game.
Owatonna boys' hockey postponed Tuesday against Austin is rescheduled for Monday, February 11 at Austin Packer Arena at 601 7th St NE, not at Riverside Arena. The OHS girls' basketball game at Mankato East is reset for Valentine's Day. Owatonna's boys' basketball game hosting East is rescheduled for Thursday, February 21.
It appears that the Medford boys' basketball game against JWP that was scheduled for Monday is canceled, as is the Tigers' wrestling meet at St. Clair that was supposed to happen Tuesday.
An Owatonna dance team event that was scheduled for Thursday, January 31 against the Rochester teams at OHS is canceled due to mounting injuries and illnesses for the teams. Dance team sections for the Huskies are February 9 at Bloomington Kennedy.
