Safety Crew Member Killed at Western Wisconsin Race Track
New Richmond, WI (KROC-AM News) - There was a deadly incident at a racetrack in western Wisconsin last night.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office says deputies and other emergency personnel responded to a 911 call of a report that a person had been injured at the Cedar Lake Speedway around 9 PM. A news release indicates a school bus race was being run at the track and safety crew personnel were tending to some buses damaged in a collision when one of the buses rolled onto a member of the safety crew.
The man was identified as 62-year-old Edward Nicholson. Life-saving efforts were attempted by emergency personnel after he was extricated from under the bus, but the River Falls Wisconsin man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Cedar Lake Speedway is located about 20 miles northeast of Stillwater.
