Jim Dale, Volunteer Coordinator for the Rice County Salvation Army Unit says they are in need of people to man the kettles in the final week of their campaign.

Dale says the local Salvation Army Unit is about halfway toward their $60,000 fundraising goal this year.

Bell Ringers are needed in Faribault, Northfield and Lonsdale.

The easiest way to sign up is to go to this website.

There are shifts open today, Friday, December 17, 2021 and tomorrow as well as Monday through Friday of next week.

Up until next week the bells have been ringing on Friday and Saturday only.

Dale says traditionally Christmas week is their best week for fundraising.  Legally the kettles have to be accompanied by someone.

Hours each day will be 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  You can sign up for a two hour shift.

Locations in Faribault include Fareway, Hy-Vee Food Stores and Wal-Mart. Cub Foods and Family Fare in Northfield.  Mackenthuns Fine Foods in Lonsdale is another kettle location in need of bell ringers.

Jim Dale also says people can phone him at 715-733-0575 if they are not computer or smartphone users but  the best way to sign up is to go to the aforementioned website.

I will ring at Fareway on Christmas Eve as I have done for many years.  This year I will be ringing from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  A few years in the past I boarded a plane the next day for some warm place to enjoy a week of relaxation.

Two of those years I followed the Gophers football team when they were in Florida and California.  I went to a couple of their bowl games in Nashville and spent the holidays in Las Vegas one year.

That is not happening this year because I just don't want to take the chance during the current pandemic of jumping on a plane with people from all over even though masks are required.

When I pay good money for a ticket to fly I want to be comfortable and wearing a mask for a few hours is not my idea of comfort.
