Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn says a head-on crash near Shieldsville Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 28 year old Faribault man.  Christopher Lee Chappuis was pronounced deceased at the scene in the 8000 block of Dodd Road about 2 1/2 miles southwest of Shieldsville.

The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Jason Robert Holicky, 42, of Kilkenny.  He was transported to Allina Hospital in Faribault for what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Dunn says the call came in to dispatch at 1:00 p.m.  He personally responded to the scene along with Kilkenny Fire/Rescue and North Ambulance.

Dunn reports, "Upon arrival deputies found a 2012 Ford Super crew pickup truck and a 1998 Honda Civic in the south ditch.  Both vehicles sustained severe damage.  The driver of the car, Chappuis, had been ejected and was pinned underneath the pickup."

Preliminary investigation the Sheriff says, "Indicates the Honda had been westbound on Dodd Road, lost control in a curve and crossed over into the eastbound lane and collided with the eastbound truck.  The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and they are being assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol with crash reconstruction."

The Faribault Fire Department and Rice County Coroner's office also assisted at the scene.
