Parade-goers seemed to appreciate the thunderstorm and showers that moved through the Medford area Friday just before the annual Straight River Days parade. The rain brought temperatures down quite a bit and the streets were lined several people deep to take in the 80-unit parade.

The parade had the usual assortment of fire trucks, local business units and politicians getting their name in front of the public. Medford's parade also featured local state track and field champion Luke Johnston, Batman and a two-headed car.

Straight River Days opened with a pageant Thursday. Madison Krenske was named Miss Medford. Morgan Jones was crowned Junior Miss. Jayden Schweisthal landed Little Miss Medford honors.

The weekend included volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball and bean bag tournaments, music, kids' activities and a rubber ducky derby.

Nearly every weekend you can find a local small town celebration. Faribault's Heritage Days was held over the weekend. Ellendale Days is coming up June 22-24. The Harry Wegner Marching Band Festival attracted big crowds to Owatonna on Saturday.
