Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - There may soon be an expansion of the parking facility at the former Rochester Kmart site that would create nearly 250 more spaces.

And nearly 400 more spaces would be added to the former AMPI site as part of a plan that will be reviewed Wednesday by the city Planning and Zoning Commission.

If the plan wins final approval, there would be nearly 1400 spaces on the combined sites.

To make way for the new spaces, the portion of the Kmart building that once housed a Salvation Army store would be demolished. Four buildings on the north portion of the AMPI site would also be bulldozed. The spaces on that site would be connected to the existing Mayo Clinic East Employee Parking Lot and would serve the same Mayo employees currently using the site.

The commission is being asked to approve a conditional use permit for the plan.

The original parking facility began operating in 2020 with nearly 750 spaces. The spaces are primarily used by Mayo employees but are also available to the public.
