In hopes to jumpstart the re-opening of Minnesota, 15 Prior Lake restaurants have urged Governor Walz to let them be a test case.

Prior Lake Mayor, Kirt Briggs, and Council members, Annette Thompson, Kevin Burkart, Zach Braid, and Warren Erickson have all banded together to submit a letter to the Governor. Since the middle of March, dine-In restaurants and bars have been closed per the States Original Stay at Home order that went into effect. While some places have been successful with the transition to take out or delivery only, unfortunately others have not and has resulted in closures.

Prior Lake is a community that understands the importance of staying at home and adhering to the social distancing guidance. During this time, our residents are doing so while also supporting local restaurants by making purchases online and ordering food to go. Despite these efforts our restaurants are all suffering greatly. - Mayor Briggs

According to Bring Me the News, a group 15 restaurants have stepped up and have offered to be test cases in the hopes of the re-opening of restaurants and bars. They believe that if things to not get reopened by June 1st, many places will be closed for good. In the letter submitted to Gov. Walz, it makes mention that social distancing guidelines would still be adhered to which would include, reducing seating counts, placing food and drink on tables rather than in the hands of the customers and hourly sanitation of the entire restaurant or bar.
