Owatonna Wrestlers Dominate; Basketball, Hockey Drop Close Games
The Owatonna High School wrestlers opened up their dual meet season Thursday night by sweeping a triangular meet at Austin in a broadcast heard on AM 1390 KRFO / 94.7 FM. The No. 11 rated Huskies beat Rochester Century 69-3 and the host Packers 60-12. OHS competes at the Chanhassen Invite on Saturday, December 11.
Owatonna girls basketball dropped a 48-46 game to Section 1AAAA rival Farmington at the OHS gym Thursday. The Tigers grabbed a quick 10-2 lead. But OHS rallied to lead for a good portion of the first half. There were five lead changes after halftime. Holly Buytaert hit a couple of big three pointers late and led the Huskies with 14 points. Friday's game at Albert Lea is postponed. The Huskies play at Rochester Century Tuesday, December 14 with coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM and the free app.
Huskies boys hockey lost 3-2 to Faribault in overtime at Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. OHS led on a first period goal by Tanner Stendel. The Falcons scored twice in the middle period for a 2-1 lead entering the third. Joseph Webster tied the game with about six minutes to go. Faribault won it in the closing minute of overtime. OHS plays Mankato East at All Seasons Arena in Mankato Saturday, December 11 at 3 pm with radio coverage on AM 1390 KRFO / 94.7 FM
In Thursday night boys basketball Waseca beat Medford 72-52, Kenyon-Wanamingo topped NRHEG 72-54 and Lewiston-Altura beat Triton.
In girls hoops NRHEG beat Kenyon-Wanamingo 74-46, Chatfield won in Blooming Prairie 53-37 and PEM beat Triton.
