Owatonna Player up for Award [Voting Ends Monday]
Owatonna junior lacrosse player Preston Meier could use your vote. The Huskies junior is up for Top Performer of the Week Award through the lacrosse hub on the Star Tribune website. Voting closes Monday, May 10.
Meier is nominated for his recent nine-point performance during a 21-0 win over Rochester Century. He had four goals, five assists and eight ground balls. Meier leads the team with 16 assists according to the hub site.
Through eight games (7-1)
- Caleb Belting, 26G, 13A
- Zack Kirsch, 25G, 11A
- Preston Meier, 20G, 16A
- Lucas Jensen, 11G, 1A
- Zach Kubicek, 3G, 7A
The Huskies shut out the Panthers in the game where Meier is up for the award. Huskies coach Scott Seykora said on the AM 1390 KRFO High School Coaches Show Saturday morning that shutouts are rare in lacrosse. The Huskies Korban Sticklin and the defense have been solid throughout the season.
OHS completed a season sweep of Northfield Thursday with a 7-4 victory, entering the fourth quarter in a 4-all tie. After breaking the tie, Dom Valento scored a big goal to give the Huskies a little bit of breathing room, "I think the biggest goal was probably Dom Valento coming down and putting by two. With the long pole he dodged a few guys, rifled a shot and I don't think the goalie even saw it," said Seykora.
The Huskies go to Mankato Monday, May 10 for a 6 pm game at Kennedy Elementary School. On Friday the Huskies will play Century/JM at John Marshall High School at 7:30 pm. That is a change in location from the original schedule. The Rockets only had a handful of players sign up. So they teamed up with Century. Friday's game is scheduled for a Kat Kountry 105 broadcast.
