Owatonna Man Headed to Prison For Lethal Argument
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Owatonna man has been given a sentence of just over 22 years in prison for killing another man during a deadly altercation outside a Minneapolis store earlier this year.
The sentence given to 28-year-old Mubarak Musse followed state sentencing guidelines for a second-degree murder conviction. He entered a guilty plea to the charge in August without a recommendation from the prosecution concerning the length of the sentence, although his attorney did argue for a downward departure.
Musse was arrested in March, several hours after he gunned down another man outside the Village Market in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. The shooting followed an argument inside the business that escalated into a physical altercation just outside the entrance to the store.
Surveillance video recordings showed Musse pull out a gun and fire multiple shots at the victim. The criminal complaint says 15 spent shell casings were found on the pavement near the victim.
The judge handling the case reserved a decision concerning restitution for a future date. Musse was given credit for 38 days for some of the time he spent in jail while his criminal case was in process.
