If you are like me, you made a run on the Owatonna Public Library on its last day open under normal operations in March. I left with an armful of items including a mystery, a science fiction story, and an espionage thriller. For good measure, I randomly grabbed something from the new non-fiction section on the way out. I think that was a book on the melting ice in the Arctic.

I saw another patron carting away enough books that he might have been planning to lift them as part of a workout plan as much as for reading. All that was about six weeks ago. Good news is the library reopened for pickup service on Monday, May 4. The building remains closed to the general public for the time being.

The library announced the procedure on their website. There you can find access to a library catalog. When your request in available, pickup will be arranged through a phone call and conducted between noon and 4 pm on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

When your time for pickup is arranged, use the Broadway entrance. Library staff will use the automatic door to allow one person in at a time. You are asked to wear a face mask.

The library's book drop has also reopened but the suspension of late fees will continue. The Facebook story time will continue Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 am through May.
