The battle for the top spot in Big 9 girl's hockey was circled on many calendars and the primetime game turned out to be a real barn burner. After a back and forth game, the Huskies (6-2, 6-0) bested the #18 ranked Falcons (9-2, 6-2) at home by the final of 5-4.

Owatonna would be the ones to strike first as Freshmen, Ezra Oien, would get a beautiful feed from her Captain, Grace Wolfe, to light the lamp at the 3:43 mark of the first period. It would be a little over 11 minutes until Owatonna tacked on an unassisted goal from Wolfe to make it a 2-0 lead at the 14:24 mark of the first. That two goal lead would be short lived though as Faribault's own, Alli Velander, would cut the lead in half 29 seconds later with Senior, Olivia Williamson, drawing the primary assist.

After taking a 2-1 lead into the intermission, Owatonna was not content with keeping it that way. Two minutes into the 2nd period, Calbey Podien, made it 3-1 off a pass from the far side hashes from Freshmen, Sarah Snitker. Faribault would yet again cut the lead in half at the 4:19 mark of the 2nd as Ryile Starkson would connect with Izzy Stephes on a Power Play goal. The Falcons tie is up 15 seconds later as Olivia Williamson shows why she is currently 5th in the state in points on the season. Owatonna would add one more before the period would end from a Power Play goal from Sydney Hunst to make it 4-3 after two periods of play.

Third period action would come out flying at both Senior Netminders Asia Buryska of Owatonna and Mikayla Bohner of Faribault would come up with huge saves to keep the game close until the 14:44 mark of the 3rd. Olivia Williamson would find Abby Goodwin in the high-slot to tie it up at 4-4 at the end of regulation.

They would be set to play an eight minute over time but the game would be decided in 1:48. Owatonna sisters, Olivia and Anna Herzog would call game for the Huskies. Anna set up Olivia in front of the net of Bohner to light the lamp and send Owatonna home with the 5-4 win in Overtime. Buryska would finish the game with 23 saves while facing 27 shots. Bohner would save 39 of the 44 shots she saw.

Faribault will look ahead to their next game on Thursday as they travel too Mankato to take on Mankato East, while Owatonna will take on Rochester John Marshall in Rochester.
