Through the years, Owatonna and Rochester Mayo have battled each other for Big Nine and section titles in girls basketball. The teams play Saturday night at 7:30, on Kat Kountry 105 FM.

The Huskies won the first meeting 60-44, but Mayo was missing a couple of its starters. OHS coach Tricia Hoffman addresses that in this week's "Coaches Show" interview:

The Huskies are 7-7 overall, 7-4 in the Big Nine and have won their last two games. The Spartans are 10-4, 8-3 in the league, and have won five straight. Both teams are fighting for a home playoff opener. Check out the section standings.

OHS is the defending Big Nine champ. Mayo finished third. The Spartans most recent conference crown was in 2010-11. Owatonna was second. That 10-11 season was the last time the Huskies & Spartans met in the section tournament, with Mayo winning 32-31. The Spartans won section titles in 2011 and 2013. The Huskies last title was 2008.

The Owatonna girls will host a Coaches Vs Cancer night on Saturday, Jan. 31 when they entertain Big Nine leading Rochester JM at 7:30.
