New Information About Minnesota Cold Case Murder Investigation
Pine River, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released some new information about a "Cold Case" murder investigation in hopes that someone will step forward and help to solve the crime.
The BCA news release pertains to the killing of Rachel Anthony. Officials say, on the night of February 27, 2001, she was working at a liquor store in Pine River and had started her car in the parking lot to warm it up before closing the business around 10 PM. A Pine River police officer found her vehicle, still running, in the parking lot. The door to the liquor store was unlocked and police located her purse and coat inside the business. It was six weeks later that her body was discovered about 15 miles away near Breezy Point in the Brainerd Lakes area.
Information provided by the BCA today indicates someone purchased a bottle of Mickey's Malt Liquor and some KOOL cigarettes at 9:57 PM that night. 21 years later, investigators are still trying to identify the customer, who is considered a "person of interest" in the murder investigation.
A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Rachel's murder. Anyone with information that could help investigators identify her final customer is being asked to contact the BCA or the Cass County Sheriff's Office. Officials say the information can be offered anonymously.
The BCA can be reached at 651-793-7000 or 877-996-6222, while the Cass County Sheriff's Office phone numbers are 218-547-1424 or 800-450-2677.
