Murder-apolis: Online Map Will Track The 2022 Homicides In Minneapolis

After nearly tying the record to homicides, 97, in Minneapolis this year, an online presence that tracks calls for service in Minneapolis has created an online map that will track where the homicides in Minneapolis occur in 2022.

According to US News online, there were 96 homicides in 2021 in Minneapolis, one shy of the deadly record set back in 1995 when national news outlets dubbed Minneapolis as Murder-apolis. The online group behind Crimewatch, a social media network that reports on calls for service in the different districts of Minneapolis, has created an online map that will track the homicides in Minneapolis by location in 2022.

The map, which is described on the website as being run by "volunteers who maintain this map as a public service".

A similar Google-driven map was created in the middle of 2021, that showed all of the carjackings and their locations across Minneapolis. The current homicide map has already been viewed more than 2,000 times in the last few days since the map was launched.

As of today, January 3rd, there had not been any updates to the map indicating that there were any homicides so far, which many online hoped would continue into the future, as the violent crimes in Minneapolis rose sharply in 2020 and continued through 2021.

BestPlaces.net, which reports using FBI data, shows that Minneapolis has a higher violent crime rate than that of Chicago, and more than double the US average.

Violent crime is defined by BestPlaces.net as being "composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault."

The cities with the least amount of crime according to BestPlaces.net, which uses FBI data, features some local communities including Heidelberg, Le Center, and Elko New Market.
