Minnesota’s ‘Cheap Must-See’ Attraction Totally Isn’t Cheap
A new survey just listed the Best Cheap Must-See Attractions in every state, but Minnesota's entry on the list isn't 'cheap' at all-- it'll pretty much clean out your checking account.
Seeing as the summer vacation season is knocking on our door, the gang over at Cheapism.com just ranked what they call the best Cheap Must-See Attraction for all fifty states. The criteria they used is this:
"We've taken an in-depth look at tourist destinations and found one site in every state that's sure to delight travelers on a budget. Our search factored in ways to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, whether in rural or urban settings. We did not set a specific price ceiling for the attractions, but where fees are imposed, they're generally less than $20 for adults and cheaper for children," the site said.
So what's Minnesota's Best Cheap Must-See Attraction? Why, the Mall of America in Bloomington, of course.
They described it like this: "The Mall of America is filled with more than just retail stores -- there's an aquarium, movie theater, house of comedy, Nickelodeon Universe theme park, mirror maze, and Lego store with a 34-foot Lego robot. Although walking around the mall is free, you're not likely to leave empty-handed," the site noted.
Ok, I get that MOA is a huge tourist destination. There's a lot going on there. And, true, it doesn't cost anything to get in. But I'm guessing you're going to pay a lot more than $20 per person if you spend a day there!
Using their own criteria of keeping things below that $20 mark per person, if you're looking to keep things on the cheap this summer, I'd suggest hitting one of Minnesota's beautiful state parks.
Whether it's Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls or Tettechouche State Park along the North Shore, or even a short trip to Whitewater or Frontenac State Parks in our own backyard, admission fees are just $7 a day (or $35 per car that will get you into ALL state parks, ALL year long)-- way less than you'll likely spend at MOA.
