Minnesota Passes 21,000 DWI Arrests for 2020 Over the Weekend
I find this number to be absolutely, completely mind-blowing, but Minnesota law enforcement have already made 21,232 DWI arrests so far in 2020.
This past weekend's 267 statewide DWI busts pushed the annual total to more than 21,000. With the holidays still ahead, we could get close to 22,000 by the end of the year..
That's so crazy to me. I cannot for the life of me understand why we keep doing this. Drink, have fun, whatever -- but we need to stop getting behind the wheel. This is not going to end well.
Minnesota also continues to pace well ahead of the 2019 highway fatality mark, about a full month earlier than the same levels were reached last year. Speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving are me main causes according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
In addition to drinking and driving arrests going through the roof, excessive speeding has become an epidemic in 2020. The Minnesota State Patrol has ticketed hundreds of drivers for flying down our highways at more than 100 mph. A motorist stopped in Minnesota for driving in excess of 100 mph could lose their license for six months.
Slow down, drop the phone, don't drink and drive. (Because we want to have you around).
