Minnesota Home to Nation’s Best Hospital in New Rankings
U.S. News & World Report put out its 32nd annual ranking of the top hospitals in the United States, and Minnesota is home to the best.
For the sixth year in a row, Mayo Clinic in Rochester is ranked the top hospital in the United States, followed by the Cleveland Clinic at #2, and the UCLA Medical Center took the third spot.
Duluth is home to one of the best hospitals in Minnesota, Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center was ranked number four in the state behind Abbott Northwestern Hospital, St. Cloud Hospital, and of course Mayo Clinic.
Essentia Health - St. Mary's is also recognized for high performance with specific 11 procedures and conditions, most of them related to Cardiology and Heart Surgery. As far as patient experience goes, they rank 3 out of 5 stars.

U.S. News says it generates its hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals. They say to be nationally ranked in a specialty, "a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients."
