During all the unreal events and activities in Minnesota, one of the most surreal I saw happened on a lake in Minneapolis over the weekend.

2020 was already an 'unprecedented' year (as we've all heard too many times already), what with all the fallout and changes due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But then, the horrible events around the tragic and awful killing of George Floyd by four rogue police officers in Minneapolis one week ago made things even more unprecedented.

I'll admit I've been way too interested in all the unrest that's been happening in the Twin Cities over the past week. I've been spending way too much time glued to Twitter, following reporters from print and broadcast outlets (some of whom I've previously had the honor to work with) in both Minneapolis and St. Paul as they continuously post some images that are both horrifying and intriguing-- and all of them, images I thought we'd never see here in Minnesota.

Like THIS video, shared by Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Nelson on his Twitter page. It shows a military helicopter, as it swoops down to pick up water from Diamond Lake in Minneapolis which it then used to extinguish fires that had been intentionally started in the ongoing riots across the Twin Cities over the weekend.

It's totally surreal, especially given the beautiful late-spring weather we finally experienced over the weekend, which stood in stark contrast to the images of Minnesota first responders and citizen soldiers in riot gear being called out to finally restore order in the streets and stop the wanton destruction across parts of the Twin Cities.

It comes during a part of the year in the Land of 10,000 Lakes when we're normally excited by finally being able to get outside, maybe have dinner on the deck or patio and enjoy a bonfire with family and friends as the sun sets over a peaceful horizon. But not this year. Wow. It's just been unreal, hasn't it?!?
