Memorial Day Events
It's hard to believe that we are already here, at Memorial Day Weekend, in 2017. It seems like I was just wondering if winter was ever going to end, and if the days were ever going to get longer. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and we are at the unofficial start to the summer.
For many people, this weekend starts the season of grilling, camping, and in general, a more laid back way of life. However, this is more than just a three-day weekend to grill out, or barbecue. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day, and it is a federal holiday designed to honor those who have lost their lives serving our country. You can read more about it here.
There is a parade right here in Owatonna, which starts at 9:30, on the corner of School and Elm Street, and ends at the Four Seasons Centre. There will be a program following at the Four Seasons Centre, scheduled to start at 10:30. The parade is always fun to watch, so many different groups march in it.
However you celebrate, be it by camping, grilling out, watching the parade, please remember, this day as a way to honor our fallen veterans. And, enjoy the weekend.
