So many books to read or listen to. It seems lists are made for just about everything. To add to that list, Esquire asked "eight female literary powerhouses" to put together a list of books to read. Here is a partial list of the 80-some suggested and a link just in case you want to do some light reading. The books are a good mixture of classics and children's to many new and different authors.

Some of the books I have read -- "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee (which also has made the list of books to ban), "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville. Some are on my to-read list -- "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker and "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott.

The suggestions were made by Michiko Kakutani, Anna Holmes, Camille Perri, Ashley Ford, Lauren Groff, Sloane Crosley and Roxanne Gay and Lizzie Widdicombe.

  • "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
  • "Selected Stories" by Alice Munro, Nobel Prize awarded.
  • Children's book -- "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle.
  • "Parting of the Waters" by Taylor Branch
  • "Sense & Sensibility" by Jane Austen, a classic that I have not read yet.
  • Children's book -- "Harriet the Spy" by Louise Fitzhugh
  • "Just Kids" by Patti Smith
  • "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher, classic book
  • Children's book -- "Fun Home" by Alison Bechdel
  • "Sula" by Toni Morrison. Also "Beloved" and "Song of Solomon"
  • "Collected Stories" by Grace Paley
  • "Middle March" by George Eliot
  • "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote
  • "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. I have read and I was not a fan.
  • "Citizen" by Claudia Rankine
  • "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen, classic

Like I said just a partial list. I made a partial list for myself to try and read some of them. Surprisingly, not one Stephen King book. Happy reading.
