Last Call An Hour Earlier? Faribault’s Council To Talk About It Tuesday

The last call for folks that are out in Faribault might be coming an hour earlier than what has become somewhat of a standard 2:00 AM across many cities in Minnesota. The Faribault City Council plans on discussing the earlier closing time on Tuesday night, and the public and bar/restaurant owners are encouraged to attend and share their feelings on the topic of closing bars an hour earlier.

According to a social media post by Faribault Mayor Kevin Voracek, the topic will be discussed at Tuesday night's council meeting after it was recommended by Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen.

At this coming Tuesday's meeting, we will be discussing bar closing time. The Police Chief is recommending it be rolled back to 1 a.m. instead of 2 due to late night issues. What are your thoughts on the closing time? - Mayor Voracek's Facebook Post

Lately, there has been an uptick in late night/early morning issues, and an earlier closing time for bars might create fewer issues for police, bar owners, and residents as folks would have less time to drink and possibly make better choices.

Discussion on the Mayor's post showed both sides of the conversation with some weighing in that it would hurt bars/restaurants financially that were affected by COVID-19 rules earlier in the year, while some folks online feel that the council should follow the advice of Chief Bohlen and move bar close up an hour to 1:00 AM.
