The defending Section 2 Class 1A champion Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights are the #3 seed despite having the most wins.  Blue Earth Area is the top seed, Maple River #2.

The Knights are 24-5.  The Buccaneers 19-5.  The Eagles are 19-3.  It appears K-W is being penalized for not wrestling teams in Section 2A and not having as many state ranked wrestlers.

The latest Guillotine rankings list Blue Earth Area at #6 in Class 1A.  Maple River is in the Lean and Mean.  Kenyon-Wanamingo is ranked #12 behind a Zumbrota-Mazeppa team they defeated.

Blue Earth Area losses were to 4 state ranked teams.  Forest Lake ranked #8 in Class 3A, Fairmont/Martin County West #3 Class 2A, Kasson-Mantorville #2 Class 2A, Scott West #9 Class 2A.  In addition they were beaten by Tracy-Milroy/Balaton/Westbrook Walnut Grove.

Kenyon-Wanamingo's losses are all against state ranked teams.  #1 Class 1A LPGE/Browerville, #4 Class 2a Foley, #5 Class 2A Perham, #2 Class 2A Kasson-Mantorville, Lean and Mean Class 1A Ottertail Central.

Blue Earth Area has three state ranked wrestlers.  Kenyon-Wanamingo's only ranked individual by Guillotine is 220 pound Carter Quam at #7.

Maple River has 4 ranked wrestlers.  Medford in Section 2A has top ranked 152 pound Willie Von Ruden and #2 at 132 pounds Charley Elwood.

The Medford Tigers are the #4 seed in the team competition hosting New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Thursday night.  The Tigers have a 7-7 dual record.  The Panthers are 9-4 but lost to Medford.

The Maple River Eagles have #7 seed United South Central (11-16) wrestling against #10 St. Clair/Mankato Loyola

Blue Earth area deserves the top seed if you compare scores against Kasson-Mantorville.  The Bucs lost 44-27 while K-W fell 69-6.

Maple River losses are to Mankato East, Blue Earth Area and Lake Mills, Iowa.

Kenyon-Wanamingo's only loss in the loaded Hiawatha Valley League was to Kasson-Mantorville.

I know the coaches would probably say you win your matches, you go to state regardless of the path you take.
