Kenyon-Wanamingo Boys, Goodhue Girls, Win in Castle

The Goodhue Wildcats traveled to Kenyon-Wanamingo High School for a H-V-L doubleheader where fans were treated to a terrific boys game.  Junior Tate Erlandson drove down the lane and scooped the ball off the backboard into the hoop to lead the Knights to a 52-51 win.  The girls game was close for most of the first half before Goodhue did what the Wildcats do, get turnovers and turn them into points. The Class A #8 rated Goodhue won 61-39.

Senior Colin Sviggum was red hot from three point range, hitting five total and finished with 19 points for Kenyon-Wanamingo.  Erlandson finished with 12 points.  Goodhue was led by junior Sam Opsahl had 16 points and senior Lucas Schumacher 12 points,.  The Knights are 1-1 in the conference and 1-2 overall and Goodhue is 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Erlandson hit the scoop shot off glass and the Wildcats brought the ball to half court and called a timeout.  There were 4.2 seconds to go in regulation when Goodhue got the ball to Opsahl for a good look about 8 feet from the basket but he couldn't get the shot to go and the Knights have matched last season's total for wins.

It wasn't the prettiest game in terms of quality of play with 20 turnovers by Kenyon-Wanamingo and 19 by Goodhue according to our Baker and Axelson CPA's of Wanamingo statistics.  It was a very physical back and forth game.  The largest lead was in the first half when Goodhue led 16-4.

The Wildcats led at the half 24-23.  The Knights were 9 of 15 from the free throw line and Goodhue was 7 of 12.

In the girls game I remember saying during the broadcast if you were to tell Kenyon-Wanamingo Head Coach Jake Wieme with about 6:30 to go in the first half his team would be down by 4 and have 10 turnovers he would probably say that's crazy. From that point Goodhue closed the half on a 17 to 5 run and never looked back leading 36-21 at the half.

The Baker and Axelson CPA's of Wanamingo stat of the first half, turnovers.  Goodhue had 5 and Kenyon-Wanamingo 14.  The Wildcats cashed in for 17 points and the Knights had 2 points off turnovers.  The game totals were 11 turnovers for Goodhue and 27 for Kenyon-Wanamingo.  The Wildcats scored 29 points and Knights 6 off turnovers.

Goodhue was led by freshman 5'9 Joslyn Carlson with 13 points,  Senior 6'3 Lexie Lodermeier also had 13 points and sophomore 5'6 Ariana Thomforde added 10 points.

The only Knight in double figures was junior 5'8 Riley Dummer with 13 points.  Junior 5'8 Julianna Boyum and junior 5'9 Megan Mattson finished with 8 points.  The trio were named our Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the game.
