Keith H. Bangs, 81, Owatonna
Keith H. Bangs of Owatonna, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Owatonna Hospital with his wife, Jane, by his side. He was born September 30, 1942, in Bottineau, ND, to Raymond W. and Ruby E. (Mickelson) Bangs.
Keith graduated from Bottineau High School in 1960 where he was a 3-sport athlete in basketball, baseball, and track. He led his basketball team to the state high school championship game 2 years in a row, winning 1 of them.
Keith then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he studied math and education. He also excelled in both basketball and baseball, graduating in 1964. He met his first wife, Marian Wambheim, at Concordia and they were married on August 1, 1964.
After short stops at Paynesville, Fairmont, and Blue Earth, they eventually ended up in Owatonna in 1974, where they raised their 4 children. Keith was a dedicated high school math teacher and OHS golf coach for 35 years. Keith was inducted into both the MN State High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame and the Owatonna High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
After losing his first wife, Marian, in 1997, Keith married Jane (Hill) Bangs on February 4, 1999, and he gained two “bonus” sons. They enjoyed their retirement traveling together, hosting vacation tours, finding golf courses when possible, and spending time with their many family and friends. He remained an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the church choir.
His passions in life were golf, travel, and family. He was passionate about teaching his students and athletes in math, sports, and life. He loved watching Husky, Gopher, and Viking football; Twins baseball; and all things Duke. He found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, being involved in their many activities, and loved to play a game of cards.
Keith is survived by his wife, Jane; children: Nathan (Jill) Bangs, Greg Bangs, Scott (Becky) Bangs, Allison (Jeff) Kiel, Jarrod (Jen) Quinlivan, and Jon (Lindsay) Quinlivan; his 16 grandchildren: Elyse and Connor Bangs; Jacob, Aaron, and Benny Bangs; Michael, Lindsay, and Lauren Bangs; Lucas, Logan, and Abigail Kiel; Hannah and Rowan Quinlivan; Owen McKenna, and Avery and Jordy Quinlivan.
