You know that feeling when you walk into a store “just to look,” and suddenly you’re leaving with a cart full of stuff you definitely didn’t plan on buying? That’s basically Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in a nutshell - I speak from experience now.

Minnesota just got its first taste of the wildly popular discount chain when the very first location opened in Austin, and I happened to be there for the grand opening. Naturally, I did what any curious bargain hunter would do. I started asking questions.

Mostly because, selfishly, I want one in Rochester.

The good news? It might not be completely out of the question. While chatting with crew at the store, they said they’ve started putting some feelers out in Rochester to see if they can find a location that could work. Nothing official yet, but it’s at least on their radar, and there are already several new Minnesota locations set to open soon!

If you’re not familiar with the chain yet, here’s how Ollie’s describes itself:

“Ollie’s is America’s fastest-growing retailer of brand-name closeout merchandise and excess inventory. You’ll save up to 70% off the fancy store prices every day. Find housewares, bed and bath stuff, books, flooring, rugs, food, health and beauty, toys, furniture, luggage, and so much more.

We’ve got famous brands like Bissell, Kellogg’s, Dove, Degree, Clorox, Hasbro, Hamilton Beach, Farberware, Zebco, and Scotts, just to name a few. Ya never know what you’ll find, but you’ll be saving big. - Ollie's”

And the company isn’t exactly small. Ollie’s currently operates nearly 700 stores across the United States, and they’re continuing to expand pretty aggressively.

While Austin was the first Minnesota location, I'm super pumped that it definitely won’t be the only. The company confirmed at least four more stores are already in the works and expected to open by the end of the year, with locations planned for Hutchinson, Baxter, Alexandria, and Maplewood.

So yes… Rochester shoppers can keep their fingers crossed.
