For a lot of people, owning a home is still the dream. Because let’s be honest, there’s something so satisfying about knowing the money you’re spending every month is going toward YOUR house instead of helping pay off somebody else’s mortgage.

But around here, where you decide to buy can make a pretty big difference in how much that dream is going to cost you.

Naturally, you’d assume Rochester would take the crown for the most expensive real estate around. We’re the biggest city in southeast Minnesota, people are moving here left and right, and new houses are popping up everywhere you look. So of course Rochester has the priciest homes, right?

Stacker just dug into the latest housing data to figure out which towns in our neck of the woods have the highest home prices, and I'm not gonna lie, a few of these surprised me.

Nationally, the average home was hovering right around $372,000 in June. Of course, not every city or town is going to come with the same price tag. And apparently, there are some pretty expensive places to live right here in our own backyard.

Spoiler alert: Rochester DID make the list. We’re in there. But we are NOT number one.
